Great test for Starlink
Doing business at sea

This week brought us a unique and fascinating assignment: assisting with the international sale of a catamaran. The vessel, originally registered in Malta, was being sold by a French owner to an Australian buyer. Due to the nature of the transaction, the catamaran had to be taken beyond the 12-mile limit into international waters so we had to clear customs and head off shore for the transaction.
As part of the process, the vessel’s flag state , Malta, was changed to the Cook Islands, and the financial handover was coordinated mid-sea. With documentation flowing in every direction, legal, logistical, and regulatory, it could have been a complex operation.
Thankfully, with Starlink installed onboard, communication was seamless. The entire process unfolded smoothly, proving once again how technology can simplify even the most intricate maritime transactions.
After the transaction was completed, we sailed the vessel into Opua, where we cleared customs once again with a happy new owner.
